Water Heater Valves

It was a breezy and cool Sunday evening on April 19, 2020; I was getting the RV set up after arriving at the KOA in Luray, Virginia. We had just finished cleaning out or house and we were to sign our closing documents on Tuesday. For the foreseeable future, this would be our home. So far everything has gone smoothly, especially for a newb, like me!

But hold on…

Welp…looks like the hot water is going to be a pain…

So, I thought I had it all right, but hot water  wasn’t coming out of the faucets! What am I doing wrong?

I removed the panel on the outside of the coach and turned on the switch. I had opened the bypass valve after I de-winterized the unit, so I know there was water in the tank. Cold water.

I realized there were move valves. I saw a valve to the red lines, so I opened it. Some progress. Now we were getting warm water. It finally occurred to me (after emailing the Forest River tech guy) the hot and cold water were mixing. The valve—the middle valve between the hot and cold lines—needed to be closed. Problem solved!

Sure, I felt stupid, but, what the heck did I know about plumbing? Moreover, what the heck did a newbie like me know about plumbing in a motorhome? As stupid as I felt (and feel!) I share this to maybe help some other newbie out down the road.

Make sure to close center valve (on the short piece of pipe).
